Authentic Peace, True Happiness
In today’s Gospel, we hear how Jesus sends off seventy-two disciples to share the good news. In the Book of Genesis, there are seventy-two nations. The number 72 indicates the good news that the Kingdom of God is at hand and should reach all peoples and all nations in the entire world. What is the Kingdom of God? The Kingdom of God is Jesus’ Love. To receive the Kingdom of God is to open the doors of our hearts to God’s Love.
We, too, are Jesus’ disciples. This means that we, too, should bring the Good News to others. We must desire to share His Love with all people, even those who do not believe in God. If we share God’s Love, then this attitude might cause conflict in some of our relationships, but it will bring peace and true joy to our hearts, which no one can take away.
Usually, we seek human peace and human happiness by avoiding conflict and maintaining superficial peace. But human peace and happiness do not last. Rather, someone or something eventually bursts our bubble of human happiness, and disappoints our expectations.
Let us choose Christ because following Him and God’s law gives us authentic peace and true happiness.
I would like to wish you all a safe and joyful 4th of July!
I hope you will be able to spend meaningful time with your family and friends, celebrating and praying in gratitude for the wonderful freedoms we enjoy in this country, including the freedom of religion, and the right to life (from conception until natural death), liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Yours in Christ,
Father Arthur
