General Bible Study | Bible Study For Women

Women of Wayside

The Women of Wayside Faith Community is the start of something special at our parish. We are a large community made up of small faith groups. These small groups will grow in faith and support one another as we share the difficulties and joys, challenges and blessings in how God is working in our lives. We hope that in this atmosphere of faith they can go deeper in relationship with God. And, as a result, bring Christ to our corner of the world.

Each group will meet in the Wayside Parish Center once per month on Thursday nights October-May. We will have three levels of evangelization – something for everyone. We are open to drop in “at large” members as well! As we like to say, come when you can, take what you need, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest!

St. Anne Group: this group will take on an introductory Bible study called The Crux that leads us through the basic proclamation of the Gospel and culminates in an invitation to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

St. Monica Group: this group will do a book discussion of This is My Body: A Call to Eucharistic Revival by Bishop Robert Barron. This study will move at the group’s pace. A second book may be possible if we finish quickly.

St. Catherine Group: this group will study Part Two of Fulfilled: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism from Ascension Press (this is a bible study focused on the Old Testament). Study materials will need to be purchased and homework is highly recommended.

We would love for you to be part of this community and to bring a friend with you!

General Bible Studies at the Parish Center

Each week, parishioners gather at the parish to reflect on the Scripture readings for the coming Sunday and to explore their implications for daily life. The Sunday Lectionary is designed to present a substantial amount of the entire Bible over a three-year period, so this approach to Bible study is both a chance to become acquainted with the whole Bible “from the heart of the church,” and an opportunity to share insights within the rhythm of the liturgical year. It isn’t necessary to register and there is no charge. Because the readings are read in context, participants typically bring along bibles rather than missals.

Meetings are scheduled:

  • Friday mornings, 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Cabrini Room of the Parish Center.
  • Homebound parishioners and parishioners outside our geographical area are welcome to attend “Live on-line” via Zoom. For the Zoom code, email biblestudy@olwparish.org

Friday Bible study does not meet on Good Friday or the Friday after Thanksgiving. If the parish school is closed because of heavy snow, the Friday morning meeting is cancelled.

One of the leaders is happy to share the following reference materials with the parish:

Home Bible Studies

There are also a number of self-directed Bible studies in the parish that meet in members’ homes. Because they are not held on the parish campus, specific details on dates, times and locations are typically not available.
