United by Our Blessed Mother
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus speaks about how He has come to bring division in families, in societies, and throughout the world. While we often think of division as something negative, the truth is: division—or polarization—shows us the truth about where we and others stand. When Jesus says that He comes to bring division, He means that, when used as the litmus test, His teachings will show who does and does not truly follow Him.
It is interesting that, while Jesus comes to bring division between those who love and follow Him and those who do not, He also gave us a special gift that brings about union: the Blessed Mother.
No matter how divided the children in a family may be amongst themselves, the reality is that they are all united by the fact that they share the same mother.
Nothing can change this biological reality. And for us, as Catholics, nothing can change the reality that we are each a beloved son or daughter not only of God the Father, but also of Our Blessed Mother.
It is God’s desire that all of His children be united, and such union can come about best when we unite ourselves as brothers and sisters under the care and protection of Our Lady’s mantel. For, She is our Spiritual Mother who loves us, and Her loving arms are the surest way to Heaven.
Yours in Christ,
Father Arthur
