The purpose of the religious education program is to assist parents in the religious education of their children, develop their faith, and help them develop a personal relationship with Jesus. These programs are for those children not attending OLW school.

Grade Level Programs:
Tuesday Afternoon and Evening Classes
Our Tuesday programs continue to offer our families child-centered, religious education for their children. Grades 1-4 meet every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. in Our Lady of the Wayside Elementary School. Grades 5-6 and First/Second Year Confirmation Prep classes (grades 7-8) alternate Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Classes begin in September and continue through April.
Classes weave together Catholic doctrine, Scripture, Christian living and prayer in an integrated approach. In addition to the textbook, volunteer catechists use a variety of age appropriate methods (such as discussion, role playing, audio visuals, group projects) to enhance their teaching of religious truths. Service opportunities are given to the children to encourage their care of others. Various forms of prayer experiences are incorporated into the curriculum to help children develop their relationship with God.
Parent involvement consists of assistance with homework, volunteerism and helping with special events. Classes are held in the classrooms of the elementary and middle school buildings. Children come together with a peer community in which to learn and grow in their faith.
All families registering for the parish religious education program should obtain a parishioner number. This is done by registering in the parish office, located in the Parish Center. Parents are asked to be contributing members of the parish through the use of weekly Church envelopes. If a family would like to attend Religious Education classes here at OLW, we do encourage becoming a contributing member of the Parish. However, we will accept students outside the parish. An additional charge of $290.00 per family is assessed to non-parish families in addition to the usual tuition amount.
Registrations are submitted to the Religious Education Office. Families new to our program can register in person or downloading a copy of the registration paperwork. Completed registration forms, a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate and payment for the classes must be submitted at the time of registration. Forms can be dropped off in the REP Office during school hours or in the Parish Center during their extended hours.
