Set Your Mind on Things Above

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”  ~ Colossians 3:2-4

Praise God for a new day of life! I’m trying to make this my first thought each day because every new day is a gift and I want to live out of a disposition of sincere gratitude.

It’s been said, ‘Sow a thought, reap an act. Sow an act, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a character. Sow a character, reap a destiny.’ It all begins with our thought life. Renewing our minds is so critically important to being faithful and fruitful disciples of Jesus Christ.

St. Paul reminds us to be intentional about our thought life and our ‘mindset’ because so much of what we focus our mental attention on becomes reality. As the psalmist writes, ‘As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.’ Our words and actions first start as thoughts in our mind. But like every other powerful faculty, it needs to be harnessed and trained for good.

So what key messages have you been meditating on recently? When we start to pay attention, we’ll find that there are many noisy and competing voices that are contrary to the voice of the One who calls us beloved sons and daughters. Today, may you be intentional to set your mind on things above.
