Don’t Wait (Until It’s Too Late)
26th Sunday of Ordinary Time – Year C
The first reading for this Sunday tells us that the people were of Joseph. What does this mean? “Joseph” is the son of Jacob, who had a coat of many colors and was sold into slavery by his brothers. After being sold into slavery, Joseph became the king’s viceroy and helped the people of Egypt survive famine. The people in the first reading were the third generation of the Chosen People—descendants of Joseph. These descendants were very proud of their ancestry. In fact, they were so proud that they completely forgot that Joseph had been a slave before he had become king, and, in this way, they, too, were descendants of slaves. These men and women ultimately forgot about God, choosing instead a life of luxury on their ivory couches, and pleasure. As a result, God had to exile this nation from its own country so that the people would turn back to Him.
At times we are also similar to the descendants of Joseph, forgetting about God and thinking only about pleasure. Let us not wait, however, until God must exile us individually, or as a nation, by permitting some very difficult situations to occur in our lives and the life of our country. Do not wait to the end when it will be too late to enter into Heaven.
Right now God is waiting for us to open our hearts to Him.
Therefore, let us choose Christ and His Love before it is too late. Let us love one another as God has commanded us; for, only when we love God and others will we find the true joy and pleasure that God makes available for us in Heaven.
Yours in Christ,
Father Arthur
