Your Spiritual Life?
This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that good intentions are not enough to get us to heaven. Following Christ and leading a truly spiritual life takes discipline, effort, and perseverance. We cannot simply say “I believe in God” and expect to gain eternal life. We must strive to actually live according to what we proclaim to believe and to grow in an ever deeper relationship with God through prayer and leading a life of virtue. This might mean waking up to get in at least 15 minutes of prayer each morning, watching one show less to make time for a daily rosary, or making that sacrifice to remain quiet when it is just so tempting to speak.
I think it is important that we ask ourselves from time to time: What does my spiritual life look like and what steps can I take to be more faithful to my resolution to follow the Lord more closely and grow in a deeper relationship with Him? What can I do or change so that how I live is consistent with what I believe?
Yours in Christ,
Father Arthur
