FATHER BROST’S MESSAGE TO YOUNG PEOPLE: ‘You are Unique; You have Something Special To Give’
A friend of – and frequent visitor to – Our Lady of the Wayside Parish, Father Corey Brost, did something he frequently does while preaching at the 9:30 a.m. Mass last Sunday.
Father Brost, former president of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, addressed a major portion of his homily to the young people in the congregation and stressed that “you are unique, you have something special to give.”
To emphasize his point, he asked all the young people in the congregation to stand and look at their fingerprints. He pointed out to the youngsters (and hopefully to the adults!) that no two fingerprints are alike, and that each of us is unique, and each of us has something special to give.
He also asked OLW young people who have volunteered for various ministries and programs during the summer to stand and be recognized, in addition to looking at their fingerprints.
Father Brost created the Children of Abraham Coalition in the Northwest Suburbs in 2010, in response to his observation of growing “Islamaphobia” and a need to bring Christians, Muslims and Jewish people together. More information about The Children of Abraham Coalition and their upcoming dinner at St. Viator High School, September 22, can be found at: www.coacpeace.org.
