In this talk, Fr. Joe Simmons discusses a sketched out, but never-written, letter by Father Adolfo Nicolás, SJ, former superior general of the Society of Jesus. Fr. Simmons will trace out some of Nicolás’s nuanced observations: how ‘distraction in prayer’ is part of a more general “distraction in life”; how even noble causes can become temptations when totalized; how ego and perfectionism distract; and how social media and marketing have stolen our attention.
