RCIA Update: Third Scrutiny
Holy Week is within sight. The Elect will participate in the third and final scrutiny during this period of Purification and Enlightenment. Then Palm Sunday and Holy Week will arrive, followed by the highpoint of the Church: Easer when the glory and Resurrection of Christ is celebrated.
The Gospel today speaks to us about being free from the power of death, free from sin, and being brought back to life. Lazarus is brought back from the dead by Jesus, but Lazarus will die again. It is a metaphor for what is to come as God the Father brings Jesus back from death after he took on the sins of the world, sacrificing them on the cross, and giving us new life. The difference is that Jesus will never die again. He lives with us in the Tabernacle, and we give thanks and praise to him at the Eucharist during Mass.
Please pray for the Elect as they continue their journey to becoming full members of the Church, the Body of Christ.
