The First Sunday of Advent: The Candle of Hope
The first Sunday of Advent symbolizes hope, reminding us that Jesus is coming. Through the prophets of the Old Testament, God promised to send this Savior to rescue the people from their sins. Over 700 years before the birth of Christ, Isaiah prophesied the birth, death and resurrection of our Messiah. This first week of Advent, remind your children that Jesus is our hope. As you light the candle of hope in your Advent wreath this week, say this prayer: All-powerful God, increase our strength of will for doing good that Christ may find an eager welcome at his coming and call us to his side in the kingdom of heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, forever and ever.
