HE’S NO LONGER “OUR” BISHOP BUT WE’RE LIKELY TO SEE BISHOP RASSAS OFTEN
A familiar face at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish for many years, Bishop George Rassas has, returned to OLW several times within the past few weeks but in a different role than before.
Bishop Rassas, who was Bishop for Lake County and the northwestern suburbs of Cook County, including Arlington Heights and Our Lady of the Wayside, reached retirement age recently and while he still maintains the position of Bishop, he no longer has the responsibilities to oversee the many parishes in Lake County and North and Northwest Suburban Cook County.
But Bishop Rassas is not going to be out of site out of mind, as OLW parishioner have discovered. His visit to OLW last weekend to celebrate two Sunday Masses was his second within the past two months and he expects to visit OLW many more times in the future.
One of the most visible tasks of Bishops is presiding over the sacrament of Confirmation and Bishop Rassas was a frequent visitor and celebrant at OLW confirmations.
He had no advance warning that he was going to be asked last weekend how many OLW students he had confirmed but after some deliberation, decided the number was at least 1,200.
Here are a few photos of visits by Bishop Rassas to OLW, including two (at top) from last Sunday’s 9:30 a.m. Mass.
