Another Email SCAM Alert
It has been a while since we had one of these but… a new year brings new SCAM attempts.
If you received an email [supposedly] from “frartur.olwparish@gmail.com“, please DELETE it. It’s not from our pastor. It’s from an unscrupulous person or group looking to take advantage of OLW parishioners.
Two different SCAM emails were sent:
The first reads, “Good Morning, Are you available? Please email me back when you get this. Thanks”
The second (a follow-up if you accidentally responded to the first) reads, “Thanks for getting back to me, I would have called you but I can’t talk right now because I’m currently in a meeting and I’m going to be here for a while. I need to get an eBay GIFT CARD for a cancer patient, I promised her as a birthday gift but I can’t do that now. Can you get it for me from any store around you please, I will refund you.”
This type of SCAM is known as “phishing.” The scammer will ask you to provide gift cards, money or personal information for a false cause or reason.
As a reminder, Father Arthur does NOT have a Gmail account.
Don’t bite! Hit DELETE.
