Middle School Bathroom Modernization Project Launched

The middle school bathrooms have been slated for renovation since 2021. Anyone who has used those bathrooms understands the need to renovate them, Over the past couple of years, many people have put in time to get quotes, decide the scope of the project, etc. This project is now in the final scoping and planning process with the selected contractor and architect. The work will begin in early June and provide much needed improvements in safety, cleanliness, and overall quality. The scope of the project grew significantly after more detailed expert walk-throughs of the existing facilities.

A simple update of the existing bathrooms is no longer possible. The current bathrooms are too small to accommodate ADA compliant facilities, contain asbestos in structural components, and rely on old and constricted galvanized piping that cannot deliver adequate water flow to meet the bathroom’s needs.

The new bathrooms will now be built in the current footprint of the larger neighboring locker rooms. The bathrooms will feature all new components, including ADA compliant toilets and new structural plumbing directly from the building’s water service. The result will deliver facilities that are equivalent to the high quality of education at Our Lady of the Wayside. These bathrooms are used by the entire parish at events inside the gymnasium and during parish/community gatherings; VBS, Parish Picnic, Oktoberfest, sporting events, Faith into Action (after Sunday Mass) and CFM events. This is a parish renovation project.

This new scope requires additional, unanticipated funding from the Parish, and we need help from our entire community. Over $130,000 has already been donated by generous families and parishioners towards the bathroom renovations. We need an additional $170,000 to cover the entire project. We are asking for your prayerful consideration of a donation towards this renovation – in support of our students, faculty and parish community – as we continue to invest in modernizing the campus at Our Lady of the Wayside.

Our goal is to achieve 80% of our fundraising number by the project kickoff date (June 17th). We will keep track of our progress, along with construction progress, and provide updates to the parish through the bulletin and the website.
