Don’t Get Baited into Phishing Scams

A new scam to a Vicariate I church appeared in which the sender, “a fellow church member,” claimed to be giving away valuable possessions of a deceased family member (a piano is a common ploy but it can be anything). The email included photos of the items. After the church staffer responded, there followed a request for payment for delivery of the items.

Be mindful. Don’t Get Baited into Phishing Scams

Phishing is an attack that attempts to steal your money, or your identity, by getting you to reveal personal information — bank information or passwords — on websites that pretend to be legitimate. Cybercriminals typically pretend to be reputable companies, friends, or acquaintances in a fake message, which contains a link to a phishing website. If you suspect that an email message is a scam, don’t open any links or attachments that you see.
