Christmas Angels Serve 300+ Meals at St. Ben’s

Posted on December 27, 2023 by Published by

In keeping with an ongoing tradition and parish mission, 50+ Our Lady of the Wayside Christmas Angels, including several families, rallied early Christmas morning, drove to St. Benedict Parish in the city, and served Christmas meals to 300+ people great need. The number fed this year increased by at least 100 people, according to registration numbers.

Thank you to all who planned and ran this important event (Steve Perille and Randi Rooney), and to all who prepared meals (20 turkeys, 18 hams and all the trimmings, including dessert), delivered and served the meals, donated gifts such as hats, gloves, scarves and gift certificates, served as clean-up crew, or helped in any way. You are true #disciples and #differencemakers. Christ’s light shines through your selfless acts of love.

Rita Kattner, event chair, was recognized for over 40 years of service! She commented on what a great group of OLW families was on hand to serve.

Fr. Joseph Pitts, former Associate Pastor at St. Benedict said…

“The greatest Christmas gift we can give is the gift of ourselves.”

St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said…

“I see Jesus in every human being [and] I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus, I must feed him…”

“If we recognize Jesus in the appearance of bread, we will have no difficulty recognizing him in the disguise of the suffering poor.”

Do you see Jesus in the faces of those pictured below?
