On April 17, 1953, Father Harold O’Hara invited members of his new parish, their friends and neighbors, and his close friends and parishioners from his three previous church assignments, to come and help him build a school by attending a gigantic card party and dance fundraiser held in the grand ballroom of the Conrad Hilton, Chicago.

Nearly 3,000 people attended. The evening began with cards at 8pm and dancing at 9pm. Jack Cavan’s Orchestra from the Edgewater Beach Hotel provided the music. Tickets were $2.50 each and $10,000 was raised.
