The Second Scrutiny
RITES BELONGING TO THE PERIOD OF PURIFICATION AND ENLIGHTENMENT: THE SCRUTINIES
As we continue to accompany and pray for our elect, we approach and embrace the Scrutinies. The Scrutinies are rites for self-searching and repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. They are meant to uncover and heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect and to bring out then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. The Scrutinies are celebrated to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life.
The second scrutiny will be celebrated at the 5pm Mass on the Fourth Sunday of Lent (March 18th)—and the previous noted objectives are no easy task. To inspire in the elect a desire for purification and redemption by Christ, join us at these most special ritual Masses.
And, please continue to lift up Nick, Michael, Elena, Sarah, and Ed in your prayers!
Sincerely,
Carol Stuber and Deacon Paul Onischuk, RCIA Co-Directors
