Posted on October 11, 2022 by Published by

Father Arthur Marat, parish staff, and Our Lady of the Wayside parishioners extend heartfelt congratulations and deep gratitude to Krystyna Tischer, recipient of the 2022 Christifideles Award.

Mrs. Krystyna Tischer (Krys) is a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of the Wayside. She has been a lector at daily and Sunday Masses for many years and a catechist and volunteer for the religious education program, teaching 1st and 2nd grade for over 20 years. She led the 1st and 2nd grade Nativity play prior to Covid and brought the play back to the parish in December 2021. Before Covid, Krys was a leader for Women at the Well, a parish program which brings in speakers of interest for women of all ages. She has a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and started an annual Living Rosary every October to commemorate Our Lady of Fatima. Krys is currently advocating for a return both of the Women at the Well programming and the Living Rosary.

Finally, and most notably, Krys volunteered as a lector at daily and Sunday Masses during the initial Covid shutdown and afterwards, even though she was battling an illness that could have made her more susceptible to infection. Krys also taught online religious education classes during the worst of the Covid pandemic. She demonstrates a beautiful faith and is untiringly committed to the parish.

About the Christifideles Award:

This award is bestowed upon Catholic laypeople who demonstrate the personal and ministerial renewal called for by the papal exhortation, Christifideles Laici, calling the laity to the vocation of responsibility for the Church’s life springing from the gift and mission of their baptism by participation in parish life.

Each individual is a practicing Catholic who manifests an understanding of the teachings of the Church and has been graced with a life formed in the Catholic spiritual tradition. The individual has used his/her talents to deepen the life of the Church in the parish or has served in an extraordinary way the ministry of the parish.

The award nomination was advanced by our pastor, Father Arthur Marat, in consultation with OLW staff, and was affirmed by the Most Rev. Jeffrey S. Grob, Vicar, Vicariate I.
