WINGS Supports Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Posted on October 3, 2022 by Published by

According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), Everyone Knows Some one who has experienced domestic violence. With statistics like the following from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), it is hard to dispute that statement.

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.
  • 1 in 5 women and 1 in 12 men have experienced sexual violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • 1 in 10 women and 1 in 50 men have experienced stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is a time to stop being quiet and start talking about domestic violence. By bringing awareness to the issue, remembering those who lost their lives, supporting those who have survived, and breaking the silence – Everyone can put an end to this MYTH that domestic violence is a private family matter.

Each week this month, Wings will send out an email and social media posts with information about domestic violence. They hope you will use this information to start conversations with your friends, family, and network to help break the silence and make domestic violence the public matter that it is.

In addition, to support survivors and help prevent domestic violence from happening in the future, you can donate to directly impact survivors. Go one step further and encourage your friends and family to join you by supporting your team on WINGS JustGiving DVAM page! Here is a Guide to help you get started setting up your team. Have questions, reply to this email for help.
