Transition: Farewell Father Dominic

Posted on June 14, 2022 by Published by

In the tradition of the Archdiocese of Chicago, from June 1 to July 30 each year, Cardinal Blase Cupich appoints new Associate Pastors to parishes throughout our diocese. With a joyful heart, Father Arthur Marat shares the following news. Effective June 30, 2022, Father Dominic Vinh Ha will be relocating to St. Edward Parish on the West Side of Chicago where he will serve as Associate Pastor, and Father Gilbert Mashurano will become OLW’s new Associate Pastor, joining us from St. Raymond De Penafort.

Father Dominic joined Our Lady of the Wayside as Associate Pastor on July 1, 2021 and served with great joy and enthusiasm, having an immediate impact on OLW parishioners of all ages. In addition to regularly celebrating weekday, weekend and Holy Day masses, he loved presiding and preaching at OLW School and Family Masses (using creative visual aids and involving the children in his homilies) and often visited our School and REP students. He initiated Daily Rosary prior to 8:30 am Mass, and participated in CFM and other parish ministries and activities.

Father Dominic served humbly – always with a smile – and his love for OLW parishioners was noted by all. Though he served for just a year at Our Lady of the Wayside, he became an integral part of our Parish Family and will be dearly missed.

Father Dominic will preside at 9:30 and 11:30 am Masses on June 25 and 26, with Farewell Receptions following each. Please join us in Church and in the Gathering Place after mass to thank him for his service to our parish, and to wish him well in his next assignment. Father will also be present to chat following the 5:00 pm Vigil, and 7:30 am Sunday, Masses that weekend.

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude – and that of our parish – to Father Dominic for his dedication to our parishioners and students, and for being such an important part of the Wayside Family,” said Father Arthur. “May God abundantly bless you, Father Dominic, in your new appointment. We wish you all the best!”

Look for an introduction of Father Gilbert in next week’s bulletin.

PS: We’re looking to put together a nice video montage of Father Dominic photos.  If you have good photos to share, please email them to Sean Reilly at communications@olwparish.org.
