Calling All Choir Members & New Members!
…to sing is to pray twice.” ~St. Augustine
The Choir Ensembles at Our Lady of the Wayside have the privilege of serving the community of faith by leading our sung worship at three weekend liturgies: 5:00 pm, 9:30 am and 6:00 p.m. Choir members are called forth from the assembly to guide and direct all of us to a more full and active participation in the sung rituals of our liturgies.
As we make our transition into the fall season I’d like to extend a special invitation to anyone interested in becoming involved in the Music Ministry at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish. There are several opportunities to participate in this vibrant ministry. Here are some of our groups that lead our music each week:
- ENSEMBLE | A smaller group of singers and instrumentalists who lead music at the 9:30 liturgy. This group is open to those of high school age and up. Practices are on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. in church. The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary.
- CHOIR | A larger group of singers and instrumentalists who lead music at the 5:00 Saturday liturgy as well as the “high feasts.” The repertoire covers the scope of Christian music from chant into the 21st Century. This group is open to those of high school age and up. Practices are on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m. in the church. The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary.
- TEEN CHOIR | This group of singers and instrumentalists lead our sung worship at the 6:00 p.m. Mass. This group is open to those who have graduated 8th grade through high school. Practices are held at 5:00 p.m. in church until the start of Mass.
We are always interested in welcoming new members;
not only singers but instrumentalists as well.
Please take some time to consider how you can become involved in our music ministry. Music ministry is a time consuming ministry of any faith community, however, it is about more than just practicing music – it is a “small-faith community” experience with many rewards!
It is a great privilege to serve as a Music Minister. It is an example of true stewardship: the sharing of one’s time, talent and treasure. Through active participation in this ministry it is a tremendous opportunity to deepen our faith life and have greater understanding of our liturgical rituals. We all should be grateful to all of our liturgical ministers who give so selflessly of their time out of love for God, our liturgical rituals and one another. We joyously welcome new members.
If you have any questions or are interested in joining (or rejoining) any of these outstanding Choir Ensembles, please contact me at the parish office at (847) 253-5353 x225 or musicministry@olwparish.org. Or see me after any weekend liturgy.
