Down to the Wire to Help Eagle Scout Create Perennial Shade Garden

Posted on August 9, 2021 by Published by

Dear Fellow Parishioner,

My name is Jimmy Doherty, and I am a Life Scout in Our Lady of the Wayside Parish Troop 161 and a junior at Saint Viator High School. I am executing my Eagle Scout project this weekend. I chose to benefit Our Lady of the Wayside because I attended the school for nine years and graduated in 2019. This has been my parish for my entire life.

The project would consist of creating a perennial shade garden on the north side of the Parish Center adjacent to the playground. This will help to beautify the parish grounds and give people a place to appreciate nature. I am seeking donations for funding of the materials required for my project. If enough funds are raised, the project would include a bench in the garden area. All funds raised will be applied directly to this project. Any donation is appreciated.

Thank you to all who have already sent donations. I appreciate your generosity. It is coming down to the wire with the project being carried out on Saturday, August 14. If you have not had a chance to donate and plan to, please do so ASAP.

If it is more convenient, Venmo donations can be sent to @dandoherty276. Checks can also be made out to Boy Scout Troop 161 and dropped at the Parish Center. The Parish Center is open Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.  Please drop off donations ASAP. Donations received after this weekend will still be accepted and applied to finishing touches.

Additionally, this project could not be accomplished without volunteers. If you are interested in giving some of your time on Saturday, August 14, any time between 8 am – 4 pm please sign up on SignUpGenius via Jimmy Doherty Eagle Scout Project: OLW Garden.

Also, if you don’t get a chance to sign up via SignUpGenius, feel free to show up to the OLW playground this Saturday any time 8 am – 4 pm. Bring a shovel/rake and gloves if you have them.

Thank you for considering donating your time and/or treasures to help brighten Our Lady of the Wayside Parish’s campus.

Sincerely,
Jimmy Doherty
