OLW Welcomes Father Dominic Vinh Ha!

Posted on June 29, 2021 by Published by

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of the Wayside,

My name is Father Dominic Vinh Ha. I will become part of your parish community and a member of your beloved church effective July 1, 2021.

I was ordained on May 22, 1993 by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. For twenty-eight years, I had the privilege of serving in different parishes such as St. Ita in Chicago, as an Associate Pastor, St. Theresa in Palatine, and St. Henry in Chicago as Pastor. For the last five years, I served as an Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes in Chicago until Cardinal Blase Cupich assigned me to serve at Our Lady of the Wayside. It will be a great walk in the journey of faith to be with all of you.

Father Arthur and Deacon Peter asked me to introduce myself in this parish bulletin. Thank you, Father Arthur, for your kindness in allowing me to be part of your vibrant community. Thank you, also Deacon Peter and staff for your graciousness and hospitality in welcoming me.

Let me share a glimpse of my priestly calling and vocation. In June of 1967, Father Chau, a professor in a minor seminary, invited me to visit the program “Come and See” when I was an altar boy serving in a small parish in south Vietnam. Responding to God’s mysterious call, I joined Thanh Quy, a minor seminary in Can tho, Vietnam for seven years, then learned Philosophy and Theology at St. Thomas Major Seminary in the Diocese of Long Xuyen.

After the communist takeover of Vietnam, I escaped to Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines. By God’s providence, I came to Chicago in 1988 and continued my studies at Mundelein Seminary for four years, and was ordained a priest on May 22, 1993.

I am delighted that I will be able to serve God again at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish. Jesus, in His providential care has blessed me more than I can possibly imagine. The mysterious call, “Follow Me” reverberates more than ever in my heart. May Our Lady of the Rosary reveal to all of us the mystery of Her Immaculate Heart and give us Her Son, Jesus!

Thank you all very much from the bottom of my heart.
