House of Worship Safety 101: An Active Shooter Awareness & Response Presentation
Our Lady of the Wayside invites parishioners and guests from surrounding parishes to attend House of Worship Safety 101: An Active Shooter Awareness & Response Presentation.
This in-person event will take place in our church, located at 434 West Park Street in Arlington Heights, on Monday, April 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The presentation will not be livestreamed.
There is no charge to attend, but preregistration is required. Click here to register: https://bit.ly/3mldYfy. If you require registration assistance or have questions, please contact Mari Torgerson at (847) 253-5353.
The evening promises to be highly informative, as Sargent Alexandra Nelson of the Arlington Heights Police Department will present strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics will include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.
Additional information: Law enforcement agencies are frequently requested by schools, businesses, and community members for direction on what to do if confronted with an active shooter event. This presentation by officer Nelson is based on the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004.
