The purpose of the religious education program is to assist parents in the religious education of their children, develop their faith, and help them develop a personal relationship with Jesus.  These programs are for those children not attending Catholic School.

Registrations are submitted to the Religious Education Office. Families new to our program can register in person or download a copy of the registration paperwork here: Complete Registration Packet For 2021 2022.

You may also register by contacting the Religious Education Office, (847) 398-5011.  If no one is available to take your call, please leave a voice message. We will return your call as soon as possible. If you prefer, you may also email repsecretary@olwparish.org for information and questions.

Grade Level Programs:

Tuesday Afternoon and Evening Classes
Our Tuesday programs continue to offer our families child-centered, religious education for their children. Grades 1-4 meet every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. Grades 5-6 and First/Second Year Confirmation Prep classes (grades 7-8) alternate Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.  Classes begin in September and continue through April for all grades.

Classes weave together Catholic doctrine, Scripture, Christian living and prayer in an integrated approach. In addition to the textbook, volunteer catechists use a variety of age appropriate methods (such as discussion, role playing, audio visuals, group projects) to enhance their teaching of religious truths. Service opportunities are given to the children to encourage their care of others. Various forms of prayer experiences are incorporated into the curriculum to help children develop their relationship with God. For our Grade 1-6 classes our text is published by Sadlier Religion, Christ in Us (publication date 2020). Grades 7 text is We Live Our Faith in Jesus and Grade 8 text is Confirmed in the Spirit.

Parent involvement consists of assistance with homework, volunteerism and helping with special events. Classes are held in the classrooms of the elementary and middle school buildings. Children come together with a peer community in which to learn and grow in their faith.

All families registering for the parish Religious Education Program are encouraged to obtain a parishioner number. This is done by registering in the parish office, located in the Parish Center. Parents are asked to be contributing members of the parish through the use of weekly Church envelopes or e-giving. If a family would like to attend Religious Education classes here at OLW, we do encourage becoming a contributing member of the Parish.
