Announcement for Our Lady of the Wayside Parish From Bishop Rassas

Posted on January 18, 2020 by Published by

As you may or may not have heard, Fr. Winters is stepping aside as Parish Administrator at Our Lady of the Wayside.  Fr. Winters, for many years, was the director of the Bonaventure House, sponsored by the Alexian Brothers, which provides residential care for AIDS patients. Cardinal Cupich invited Fr. Winters back into parish ministry approximately five years ago. After several brief assignments, including the time at Our Lady of the Wayside, it became apparent to Fr. Winters that he had some personal issues to take care of and it was decided he should step down from his position at Our Lady of the Wayside. His personal issues have nothing to do in any way with misconduct. He asks for your prayers during his time of healing and greatly enjoyed his time at Our Lady of the Wayside.

We are pleased to announce that Cardinal Cupich has appointed Fr. Artur Marat as Parish Administrator for Our Lady of the Wayside.  Fr. Marat was ordained in 1988. He Is returning from a sabbatical after having served in the Archdiocese for eighteen years. Cardinal George asked Fr. Marat to come to the Archdiocese as a Polish canon lawyer to deal with Polish language marriage cases. He has a doctorate in canon law. Besides working with the Tribunal on annulments he has worked as a parish priest at St. John Fischer in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago and as pastor for six years at St. Barbara in the Bridgeport neighborhood. Fr. Marat believes that it is most important to work for the salvation of souls and to listen. He asks for your prayers. Fr. Marat is grateful to Cardinal Cupich and Jesus for this opportunity.

Fr. Marat has been accepted into the pool of priests who are being reviewed for pastor positions to be decided by the Archdiocese for appointments as of July 1.
