MEET THE ELECT! – RCIA Class of 2019
Michael A. – Going through the R.C.I.A. program at Our Lady of the Wayside has been a great experience. Growing up I was not a part of a church community nor did I have a religious upbringing. The R.C.I.A. team has been very welcoming and open to any questions I have had over the last several months. If there was a “why/how” question that they were unable to help me understand, they would find other resources that I could read over to get a better understanding. Going through the program has also helped bring me closer to my soon to be wife. I have a much better understanding of her beliefs and values, and we have begun to pray together. Overall, I am very thankful to the R.C.I.A. team for taking the time to help guide me while I learn more and more about Catholicism. |
Anthony M. – I began as a lost soul who finally admitted it was time to be found. That coupled with the fortunate meeting of a wonderful woman – who together with me, aimed to find a church we could call home. This led me to the front steps of Our Lady of the Wayside. From there I was led to the R.C.I.A. Program. I was welcomed with open arms by Deacon Mike Madison, Elaine Clancy and the wonderful members of the R.C.I.A. program. I found a home on Tuesday nights for scripture teachings with open discussions on the Bible, our faith, and the mission of OLW and Catholicism. I learned at R.C.I.A. that the core of that Mission was the importance of spreading hope, showing love, pursuing peace, and practicing how to treat others with human dignity. To do as Jesus would do and live how he would want us to. Accepting myself as He does regardless of my faults, fears, and human inadequacies. We correlated much of the wise teachings of the Bible in our own lives. We prayed and we laughed and the more we met, the more I felt part of something truly special. It was more than a Bible study, it was the induction into a warm and welcoming community at OLW all under God’s grace. I now and will continue to be eternally grateful for the R.C.I.A. program at Our Lady of the Wayside. |
Corey S. – I joined R.C.I.A. hoping to simply better understand the Catholic faith. I married into a devoutly Catholic family, that has been actively involved in the Church. Initially, I wasn’t sure if this was something I would be willing or able to fully commit to, but the further I progressed in the program, the more I felt I was learning and receiving in return. R.C.I.A. has been a great way for me to fully understand the Catholic faith, and has allowed me to have a deeper connection with my family, let alone my relationship with God. I am truly thankful and blessed for the R.C.I.A. team and program, and all that it has done for my life. |
