PADS Is Looking for Volunteers
Matthew 25: 44-45. “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and didn’t do anything to help you?’ Then he will answer, ‘I assure you that when you haven’t done it for one of the least of these, you haven’t done it for me.’”
While the PADS Program at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish ceased due to lack of volunteers, it continues at St. James Parish but, they too, are in need of more volunteers. If you were a volunteer at Wayside, or if you are interested in helping out with this important program that provides shelter and food for the homeless, please note the following…
St. James PADS will reopen October 2024 and is in need of many volunteers this season. If you worked with PADS in the past, please come back and continue to nourish the spirit of those in need and mentor new volunteers. If you have not volunteered before, please join one of our wonderful volunteer teams, and check with your friends to see if you would like to work together on a shift. Many parishioners and others in the community have formed lifelong bonds with their fellow volunteers through this program. Serving others is a connection like no other. The commitment can be as little as 4 hours per month or as often as you could be available. Please share this email with anyone who may have a heart for the homeless and a desire to connect through service.
Shift Volunteers:
Shift volunteers work on either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month covering 4-5 hour shifts from 7PM-7AM. During this time the volunteers monitor and serve the needs of the guests with showers, sleeping arrangements, laundry, and create a temporary oasis from the often harsh realities in life. Shift Volunteers must be 18 or older, or 16 with a parent. New volunteers will have access to a brief training.
Food Teams:
The food teams sign up for either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month (or as many teams as you can) to provide and/or serve warm dinner for the guests (signing up to drop off either an entrée, side, or dessert from a given menu). If you join a team and are for some reason unable to contribute that month let the food team leader know and you can contribute the following month. St James is still in need of 1 food team leader.
There will be additional opportunities for small groups, scouts, youth groups, community groups, teams, ministries etc. Please let us know if your group would like to volunteer on a set-up crew on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm or help with clean-up from 6:30-7:30 am Thursdays mornings.
