YOU Are a Gift to God

7th Sunday of Easter – Year C

The Gospel for this Sunday contains some striking words. As Jesus prays to God the Father for those who believe and those who will believe in Him, He says, “They are your gift to me.”

Have you ever stopped to consider that you are a gift to God? And not only are you a gift, you are someone whom Jesus wishes “that where I am they also may be.”

Often we project onto God our own vision of who we think He is. This vision is often based on imperfect people in authority, such as our parents, who—for better or for worse—helped influence and form our image of God. Because of our distorted image of God, we think that God thinks about us as we think about ourselves. For this reason, we might doubt that we are a gift to God or that He actually and truly wants us to be with Him for all eternity.

If you ever doubt that God Loves you, that He delights in you, that He wants you to be with Him forever, remember these simple words from the Gospel and repeat them to yourself. God cannot lie, so if He said that we are a gift to Him and He wants to be with us forever, then He sincerely meant these words and lovingly proved it on the cross.

Yours in Christ,
Father Arthur
