Thank You St. Mark’s Volunteers

Thank you to all who volunteered and contributed to our St. Mark’s Ministries

Christmas 2021 was our second year of celebrating Christmas under the Covid pandemic. While it provided obstacles for all us, it was especially hard on the St. Mark’s community.
Fortunately, our parishioners rose to the occasion and were very generous, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the whole year. I would like to summarize some of our successes.

St. Mark’s Food Pantry

This is a monthly activity of providing non-perishable food. As you can see from the picture below, the collections grew significantly as the community’s need increased with the deepening pandemic.

Then the issue is to move the food from the OLW garage to St. Mark’s food pantry. Don Piergalski coordinates a team that collects the food and delivers everything to St Mark’s.

St. Mark’s Christmas Giving Tree

The Giving Tree provides Christmas gifts to many families in the St. Mark’s community. Coordinator Patty Haase and her team receive a list from St. Mark’s for families that need a little help providing a joyous Christmas to their family. The list includes people of all ages. For many of these families, the contribution from Wayside will be the only material gifts they will receive.

Special Thanks to:

St. Vincent DePaul group from the Rockford Diocese gave us over 80 turkeys and hams for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. This provided over 300 holiday meals for members of the St. Mark’s community.

The OLW Cub Scouts (pack161) provided poinsettias that were distributed at St. Mark’s.

As you can see from these ministries, many hands lighten the load. We are very thankful for all who have been a part of this ministry.

However, it’s important to remember that the needs continue throughout the year. If we each provide our support, we will show the presence of God in our world.

“We are truly blessed –
for what we have and for what we share.”
