Lent 2018


In addition to the ongoing Bible studies and Prayer meetings, the following events have been scheduled for Lent 2018 (February 14 - March 31). The list will be updated as needed. All Lenten events are held at Our Lady of Wayside unless noted.

Fast and Abstinence Rules
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years and older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all the Fridays of Lent.

Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one's needs, but eating solid food between meals is not permitted.

All Saturdays of Lent
Sacrament of Reconcilation in the Gathering Place, 11:00 a.m.-Noon

Adult Formation

  • Weekly Scripture Study, Fridays 9:30 a.m. in Gathering Place

  • Men's Lenten Workouts with Father Louis and the parish deacons in the Neumann Room in the Parish Center Saturdays, February 17 thru March 24 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

  • Parish Mission Ė Sam Kauffman will be giving our area Parish Mission, "Road to Resurrection" on February 25-27 at 7:00 p.m. each evening at St. Maryís in Buffalo Grove. A re-cap of the presentations will also take place on February 26 & 27 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Come and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enrich your faith during this Lenten season! Blessed Sacrament Adoration
Everyone is invited to a very special parish-wide Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Please join with all members of Our Lady of the Wayside for a very special parish-wide Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. From the conclusion of the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Thursday, February 15 to the communion service at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, the Blessed Sacrament will be displayed for adoration and prayer in the Gathering Place. Please come and spend an hour, or more, at the Adoration, and please consider attending often throughout the event. What a great way to begin the 2018 Lenten season! In order to maintain a constant and prayerful attendance during the Adoration, we ask that you sign up for the time or times you can commit to attend. Parish Service Day
Join other parishioners in the Mackin Center for various service projects on February 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Reconciliation Services
Parish Reconciliation Services will take place on the following dates:

  • Monday, March 19, 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Wayside
  • Tuesday, March 20, 3:00 p.m. at St. Edna, Arlington Heights
  • Tuesday, March 20, 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary, Buffalo Grove
  • Wednesday, March 21, 7:30 p.m. at St. James, Arlington Heights
  • Thursday, March 22, 7:30 p.m. at St. Colette, Rolling Meadows (service in Spanish, confessions in English)

Reconciliation is also available at OLW every Saturday in the Gathering Place from 11:00 a.m. until Noon.
