BLESSING OF NEW LIFE

The weekend of September 30 and October 1, after each weekend Mass, a blessing will be given for all expectant parents and their unborn children. All parents, families and friends who are anticipating the birth of a child, whether here or elsewhere, are welcome to come to the front of the church after Mass for the blessing. Please invite anyone you know who would like to participate in this celebration of and prayer for new life!

CONNECTING OUR MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT
Looking for a way to relax and reduce your stress level a bit? Looking for some quiet prayer time? Why not combine the two? Join us once a month for an evening of yoga, prayer, guided meditation, and peaceful music. We will use yoga postures, movement, and breathing to relax our bodies and minds in preparation for prayer and Scripture-based mediations. The next session is on October 4th from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gathering Place. All ability levels are welcome, as the postures and movements can be adapted to what each individual is able to do. Please bring either a yoga mat or a beach towel.

If you have any questions, contact Mandy Dillon in the parish office: 847-253-5353 or
Pastoralassociate @olwparish.org. Don't want to miss seeing the announcement in the bulletin? Send Mandy an email to sign up to receive an email reminder about these sessions.

130+ OLW Parishioners Serve As Eucharistic Ministers

From Teen-agers To Senior Citizens

More that 130 OLW parishioners - ranging in age from teens to senior citizens well above the age of 70 - provide a highly visible and much needed service to the parish by serving as Eucharistic Ministers.

"I personally feel that the Eucharistic Ministers are some of the most responsible and dedicated parishioners," said Marlene Bowen, who has been a Wayside parishioner since 1981 and has served in a variety of activities, including involvement with the Eucharistic Ministers for the past five years.

"They (the ministers) come to each weekend or daily Mass prepared (whether scheduled or not) to serve or to jump in and serve. I think that they would all agree with me that it is one of the most beautiful ministries at Wayside. To feel responsible for giving the Body and Blood of Christ to those at Mass is an incredible blessing and gift."

Weekends, of course, are the busiest times. Fifty-six ministers serve at the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass and the 7:00, 8:15, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday, and the 6:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday evening. The Sunday evening Mass is geared to teenagers and features teens as Eucharistic Ministers, in addition to teen musicians.

Holy Days of Obligation engage 22 Ministers for the morning and evening Masses and the 8:30 a.m. weekday Mass utilizes three Eucharistic Ministers.

Frequently, Marlene said, family members who are Eucharistic Ministers are asked to serve at funerals. There also are several members of the funeral choir who serve as Eucharistic Ministers at funeral Masses. "We try to help out whenever needed and to make each Mass as Special as we can make it."

The training that is required for Eucharistic Ministers is an Archdiocesan-approved workshop that is 3-4 hours long which covers the theology and scripture of the Eucharist, as well as the personal responsibility that we as Ministers assume.

The second part of the training is an approximately one-hour long workshop that goes through the details of the Ministry at Our Lady of the Wayside.

OLW parishioners interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister will need to attend a workshop. Local workshop dates are published in the OLW Bulletin and on "Wayside Wednesday," the parish weekly e-mail memo. Additional information is available from Pastoral Associate Mandy Dillon at pastoralassociate@olwparish.org.

Photos were taken at the 8:15 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and  6:00 p.m. Masses on Sunday, September 17. The 6:00 p.m. Mass is the "teen" Mass. Photos show Eucharistic Ministers assembling  in the Sacristy before proceeding to the altar.
