You have to look carefully through the sea of young enthusiastic faces but right smack in the middle, you should see the three "old guys," including OLW's Pastor Father Ed Fialkowski (red jacket), OLW's Associate Pastor Father Louis
Golamari (white collar) and Bishop David Malloy (center, in black) of the Diocese of Rockford.

The setting was Camp WOW, the summer camp for Catholic middle schoolers hosted by high school counselor under the direction of their parish youth ministers. This session of Camp WOW was held in Dickson Valley Camp in Newark, near Rockford. Teens from Our Lady of the Wayside joined teens from St. Catherine of Siena Parish in West Dundee and
St. Mary Parish in Sycamore. OLW Youth Minister Sean Norris was one of the ministers.

Cub Scouts is for all boys grades 1 - 5. Boys are welcome to join at any grade. Cub Scouts meet once a month on Thursday evenings as a "pack" for an outing or activity, and once or twice monthly in grade-level Dens to work on rank requirements.

Some of our activities include Pinewood Derby
· Rocket Launch · Mini-Campout · Coffee & Donuts ·  Feed my Starving Children · Robotics demonstration · Den visits to police and fire stations.

Den meeting times vary by den, depending on parents' and leaders' schedules, and may be after school, in the evening, or may vary by activity.

A kickoff/informational meeting for grade 1 (Tigers) will be held
Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7:00, in the rectory basement.

The first pack meeting will be
September 21st at 7:00.   Current scouts should watch e-mail for information from den leaders, and more details on pack meetings.

Contact: Elizabeth Bauer,
lizbauer3 @gmail.com or 847-749-1521.

Boy Scouts is for boys grades 6 and up, or boys who cross over from Cub Scouts in February. Boys need not have participated in Cub Scouting to join, and need not attend school at Wayside.

The troop meets most Sunday evenings from 4:30 - 6:00, as well as monthly campouts, summer camp at Napowan, and a High Adventure week for high schoolers.

Campout destinations for the year include: Marsailles National Guard Base and Starved Rock State Park
· Camp Bullfrog Lake · EAA (Aviation) Museum · U.S.S. Cobia (submarine overnight).

Interested boys are invited to join us at an upcoming outing to try out the troop. Contact:  Martin Bauer,
mxbauer @comcast.net or 847-309-3384.

We've seen these initials a number of times in our bulletin, haven't we? What do they mean? The formal definition is The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults - but there's more to it than that.

If you could ask one of the candidates from Easter of 2017, the above definition would be embellished a great deal.

The program is focused on helping adults who are thinking of becoming Catholic as well as adults who may be coming back to Church after being away for a while. The program also accommodates adults who want a renewal and update concerning all that is happening in our Church today.

This takes place in a series of gatherings geared to enlightened and renew for all 'What it means to be Catholic'. We gather as friends, no formal classes or tests.

All are welcome to come and join us with your questions on Tuesday, September 12th in the Gathering Place at 7:30 p.m. If you would like to know more about our Church today, please come! For more information please call the parish office at 847-253-5353.

Deacon Michael Madison & Elaine Clancy, Co-Directors
