LENTEN OFFERINGS AT OUR LADY OF THE WAYSIDE
Mandy Dillon, Pastoral Associate

Lent is a time to reflect on our faith and to make it more a part of our everyday lives. With that in mind, here are several activities and opportunities at Wayside to help you to make the most of the upcoming Lenten season.

Parish Mission - Ken Yasinski will be giving our area Parish Mission on February 26th, 27th, and 28th, beginning at 7:30 each evening at St. Edna's. He will be reflecting on how we can live our Catholic life to the fullest. Come and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enrich your faith during this Lenten season!

Ash Wednesday (3/1) - the start of our Lenten journey - ashes will be given out at each of the following:
7:00 a.m. - communion service 10:00 a.m. - prayer service (school) 4:00 p.m. - prayer service (REP)
8:30 a.m. - Mass   1:00 p.m. - prayer service (school)  7:30 p.m. - Mass

Special Lenten Adoration Opportunity - Everyone is invited to a special parish-wide Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. From the close of the evening Mass on Ash Wednesday, March 1st through the conclusion of Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 3rd, we will have Adoration in the Gathering Place (it will move into the church at 5 p.m. on Friday). Please come and spend an hour or more at Adoration, and please consider attending often throughout the event. Sign-up is available on the Sign Up Genius website for the times you would like to join us in prayer: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0D4BA4A928A1F94-adoration. Or, feel free to stop in any time! Adoration is also available almost every Wednesday throughout the year from 2-3 pm in the church. (Note: There will not be adoration at 2:00 on March 1stbecause of Ash Wednesday services or on April 12th due to the school's presentation of the Living Stations at 2 p.m.)

Soup & Stations - Once again we will offer soup suppers before our Stations of the Cross services on Friday evenings during Lent. (Before the first soup supper on March 3rd, the above-mentioned Adoration will move from the Gathering Place into the church.) The soup suppers begin at 6:30 p.m., with stations at 7:30 p.m.

Wayside Lenten Workouts - Father Louis, Deacon Don, Deacon Mike, and Deacon Tom are offering a Lenten reflection series for the men of the parish. All men of Wayside are invited to join them on Saturday mornings in Lent from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in the Gathering Place.

Parish Service Day - Join other parishioners for various service projects in the Fr. Mackin Center on March 4th from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

NEW Sunday evening Mass - Beginning on Sunday, March 5th, there will now be a Sunday evening Mass each week at 6 p.m.

Shroud of Turin Exhibit - The Shroud of Turin has long been venerated by the faithful and is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. This exhibit includes a canvas reproduction of the Shroud and presents the results of a comprehensive scientific and forensic study with numerous photographs and illustrations and is the work of the Center for the Study of the Passion of Christ. We will also have a LIVE WEBCAST with Dr. Wayne Phillips at 1 p.m. on March 12th. He will discuss the Shroud's history and scientific facts as well as his own fascinating research followed by a Q&A period. The exhibit will be available in the Fr. Mackin Center on Sunday, March 12th from 8 a m -8 p.m. and on Monday, March 13th from 3:30-8 p.m.

OLW PARISH LIBRARY

CHECK IT OUT!

The bookcases in the Gathering Space are filled with books and resources, from Bible Study to Prayer and Meditation. They are available to be checked out on Saturdays before Mass while the choir is rehearsing until 4:50 p.m. in the Gathering Space, and on Sundays before and after Mass. Just complete the card that is in the book pocket with your name and date, and place it in the blue box that is on the bottom shelf on the left side of the fireplace. When you are finished with the book, just return it to the "Return Book" basket. Very simple and easy!

On the bottom shelf to the right of the fireplace is a row of books that are Lenten suggestions. They have short readings and scripture meditations/reflections that might be helpful to you in your journey this Lent. Make a Lenten promise to take 15 minutes each day for prayer and reflection. Get to know the Lord better through some daily personal conversation with Him. If you have some books that are good candidates for Lent, add them.

Immediately outside the Gathering Space are two book shelves that have Carenotes-short one-topic pamphlets that  are excellent reading. And, the Lighthouse kiosk has many wonderful CDs and books.
